Stromberg 97 tattoos

Screen Shot 2013-11-12 at 17.53.51Saw a particularly crazy – and big – tattoo of a Stromberg 97 carburetor last week. so I thought we’d have a quick round-up of the Stromberg 97 tattoos we’ve seen so far. It’s interesting how different artists interpret the iconic 97 design differently, putting their own slant on it – from a more accurate, technical design to the almost cubist look of the Juha Lensu (Raining Blood Tattoo in Finland) piece above. I wonder what the original Stromberg draftsmen would make of this if we could go back to 1933 and show them these?!  It’s pretty far out that people like Stromberg stuff so much they want to ink it on their bodies for ever. So huge respect to all those who do.

Crediting the gallery pics below, Matt Petersen’s arm has a 97 with an SP Top. Ahron Jeffree’s leg boasts this wild Hardcore piece with flames. Steve Shepard’s laurel leaf 97 design was inked by Bud Garo at Spyglass Tattoo in Manchester, NH, USA. And Randy Martinez told us, “This is one I got about four years ago on my ribs. Looks distorted because the way had to hold my arm to take picture, but it’s the center carb of my three-two set up on my 1928 A sedan.” That leaves Ryan Drumm with the other complete carb. If you know of any others, please let us know!

Stop Press (again): We just found new new Stromberg tattoos! The cool linkage side view with the scoop was inked by Agency Tattoo in New Zealand for their client Sharon, while the crazy exploded view was done by Larson’s Tattooing of Mandan ND, USA. There are no contact details on their website so if you know them, we’d love to give proper credit, of course.

Stromberg 6×2 Sports Rod!

photo redHow much do we love a 1950’s Sports Rod?!  And what better than a Chevy powered Sports Rod with six 97s? Scooter Gabel send us some pictures of the Wright Special that he’s currently restoring back to its former glory and, as you can see, it’s pretty complete considering it’s over 50 years since young Johnny Wright put it together. According to this August 1960 Hot Rod Magazine feature, it had a bored and stroked 328 inch ’57 Corvette motor with an Edelbrock Stromberg 6×2 intake, an aluminum hand-formed body and a Halibrand quick-change rear end. Sadly the induction system was missing, but the intake appears to be an Edelbrock ML C67 so Scooter’s on the hunt for one right now.

He also says that the car’s craftsmanship and build quality is far beyond anything from the mid ’50s he’s been around before, and it has timing tags from El Mirage at 143+ MPH, so that speaks volumes for the car! I am sure we’ll see more pics when she’s back on the track.
